“IN THE PROJECT, WHICH FOCUSES ON REHABILITATING AND REORGANIZING THE PUBLIC SPACE, THE COLLECTIVE MEMORY OF THE TOWN, WHICH IS REFLECTED IN THE USE OF RED LIMESTONE AS THE MAIN MATERIAL, IS NOT LEFT ASIDE.”

Project

The project proposes to recover an important place in the town of Errenteria, in the immediate surroundings of the old wall next to the parish of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción The plot is bordering and outside the old walled enclosure. The intervention is based on a program of uses linked to different activities related to a new municipal library, necessary and important for the city.
Architecture is entrusted with the task of reactivating a sacrificed space with a marked residual character. In the proposal made, the building becomes an urban place towards the setting of the wall, recovering this forgotten element. The incorporation of the urban facade of the current wall as a backdrop to the project, as well as the new proposed routes are the main axes of the project.
In an attempt to abstract the traditional image of the wall, we propose a volume developed on the first floor that is topped by two “towers”. The library, therefore, becomes an urban place, a viewpoint towards the recovered scenery of the wall.
In the project, which focuses on rehabilitating and reorganizing the public space, the collective memory of the village, which is reflected in the use of red limestone as the main material, is not left aside.
The library, therefore, is a direct consequence of the recovery of the wall, which is at the same time the recovery of the history of the town of Errenteria.
