I work on how the application of digital techniques in Architectural representation supposes a qualitative leap in the traditional way of representing, exposing and valuing Architecture, whether it is representing existing architectures or representing an architectural idea at the project level. The documentation and three-dimensional representation and the potential represented by the different digital manufacturing tools make it possible to transfer all the geometric and graphic information to physical elements through various digital manufacturing systems to which different mechanisms and virtual processes can be applied that complement the perception and increase the information about the architectural element that we are handling.
During the last years we have carried out various tests and investigations on modeling, data processing and geometry and finally on digital construction techniques, both additive and subtractive, applied to both scale models and functional elements.
The activity carried out consisted of the development of an Architectural cataloging protocol that would allow its use as a design or intervention tool in the built elements.
It was proposed to systematize and complement the techniques at our disposal, in an attempt to articulate and rationalize the entire process, from the acquisition of data in situ, graphic and bibliographic documentation, 3D modeling, digital manufacturing of the elements and post-production using tools of visualization, application of textures and layers and increase of the information that a model may be able to convey.
What this project proposed was not only the creation of virtual and printed 3D models of heritage, but also to facilitate access to these files for documentation and subsequent physical reproduction or 3D visualization of the files created. Therefore, there was a need for documentary research, another for the generation of manufactured models and a third for the generation of dynamics and protocols that would allow the exhibition.
